Mockingjay: Part 1, the third novel-based installment in the Hunger Games movies, was a huge success grossing at around 56 million dollars on its opening day. At one point during the film Jennifer Lawrence, the protagonist, sings a song titled "The Hanging Tree," written by the author of the books, Suzanne Collins. For a song that was sung by a person that claims she is a "tone-deaf singer," I'm sure that Jennifer Lawrence was shocked by the continuing success of this song. Now not only is she an Oscar-winning actress, she is also a successful singer. The soundtrack for the film had reached number 40 on Billboard's Top 200 list, and "The Hanging Tree" hit number 10 on Billboard's Pop Song chart. The song in the movie was meant to incite rebellion and to move audiences, and did that and more. Lawrence has reportedly said that she hates singing in front of people. I think it's really awesome that she was able to perform this song, and be so successful doing it. It's always a nice surprise to see so much positive commotion happen from songs that were sung in movies by unexpected actors and actresses. |
